Deutsche Institutes for Advanced Study streben nach Sichtbarkeit und verabschieden in Delmenhorst Pos
Am 4. und 5. Oktober 2023 kamen Vertreterinnen und Vertreter von 15 deutschen Institutes for Advanced Study (IAS) zum Halbjahrestreffen des Netzwerks deutscher IAS am Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) zusammen. Ihre zukünftige Entwicklung und ihr Beitrag zur Wissenschaftsförderung bildeten Schwerpunkte der Tagung. Das Netzwerk verabschiedete ein Positionspapier, welches das besondere Potenzial von IAS deutlich macht.

Remembering Spiros Simitis
The Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften is saddened to record the passing of its founding director Prof. Dr. Spiros Simitis, who died aged 88 on March 18, 2023. As chair of its scientific directorate from 2008 to 2012, Professor Simitis was a key figure in establishing the Forschungskolleg as an Institute for Advanced Studies within Goethe University.

Long-standing cooperation between Menachem Fisch and Christian Wiese receives an institutional framework
Official launch of the Frankfurt-Tel Aviv Center for the Study of Religious and Interreligious Dynamics
In December 2022, the Frankfurt-Tel Aviv Center for the Study of Religious and Interreligious Dynamics was officially launched. During a two-day conference, university presidents Enrico Schleiff of Goethe University and Ariel Porat of Tel Aviv University signed a cooperation agreement. The founding of the center, which will be operated jointly by the two universities, was the initiative of Menachem Fisch and Christian Wiese. The Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften has supported their close cooperation on interreligious dynamics in history and the present for many years.

On Friday, November 4, 2022, the John McCloy Transatlantic Forum was officially inaugurated before a full auditorium in the lecture hall of the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften. The forum is named after John J. McCloy, who served as U.S. High Commissioner in Frankfurt from 1949 to 1952. In a moving speech, the son of High Commissioner John J. McCloy II recalled his father's efforts to build up German civil society in the postwar period. Heute wurde Frau Professor Astrid Wallrabenstein vom Bundesrat zur Richterin am Bundeverfassungsgericht gewählt. Sie übernimmt im Zweiten Senat die Richterposition von Andreas Voßkuhle. Zu dieser neuen Position gratulieren wir Frau Wallrabenstein, die dem Wissenschaftler-Kollegium des Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften der Goethe-Universität seit 2018 als Goethe-Fellow angehört.

The president of Goethe University, Professor Birgitta Wolff, has appointed three further university professors to be Goethe fellows at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften - Roland Borgards, professor of contemporary German literature; Sandra Seubert, professor of political science; and Astrid Wallrabenstein, professor of law. Beginning in 2018, the three new fellows will contribute to the Institute for a period of up to four years.

Veranstaltungsreihe startet im Sommersemester 2009
Nachhaltige Entwicklungszusammenarbeit ist ein Schlüssel für globale Gerechtigkeit. Doch zielen die bisher unternommenen Anstrengungen auch tatsächlich in die richtige Richtung, oder sind selbst gut gemeinte Hilfsangebote in Wirklichkeit sogar kontraproduktiv? Diesen Fragen geht das Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in der Veranstaltungsreihe »Kritische Analysen der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit« mit Vorträgen von Klaus Töpfer (ehem. Umweltminister und Direktor des UNO-Umweltprogramms), Thomas Pogge (Philosophieprofessor in Yale) und David P. Ellerman (ehem. Berater der Weltbank) nach.
