Updates from former Fellows
Former Fellows have informed us about changes in their academic activities: Afsoun Afsahi, Theodore M. Lechterman, Susanne Mantel, Claudia Welz and Gregory Whitfield.


Afsoun Afsahi was, on the invitation of the research centre »Justitia Amplificata. Rethinking Justice - Applied and Global«, a guest at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften from October 2018 − September 2019 with the research topic »Who constitutes legitimate demos? Settlers, migrants, and the indigenous populations«. She is currently Assistant Professor of Political Theory and Gender at the Department of Political Science, University of Amsterdam. As of July 2021, she will work at the University of British Columbia as Assistant Professor of Political Theory.


Theodore M. Lechterman was, on the invitation of the research centre »Justitia Amplificata. Rethinking Justice - Applied and Global«, a guest at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften from September 2018 − August 2019 with the research topic »Donors’ Democracy: Private Philanthropy And Political Morality«. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Institute for Ethics in AI of the University of Oxford.


Susanne Mantel was, on the invitation of the research centre »Justitia Amplificata. Rethinking Justice - Applied and Global«, a guest at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften from October 2019 − September 2020 with the research topic »Duties towards Refugees and the Demands of Global Justice«. In addition to her work at the Institute of Practical Philosophy at Saarland University, she has successfully applied for a cooperation group at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) in Bielefeld. The aim of the group is to work together on »Normative Challenges of the European Asylum System.« More information about this project can be found here.


Claudia Welz was, on invitation by Heiko Schulz (Professor of Systematic Theology and Philosophy of Religion) and Christian Wiese (Professor of Jewish Philosophy of Religion) and the LOEWE-focus »Religious Positioning. Modalities and Constellations in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Contexts«, a guest at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften from October 2019 – July 2020 with the research topic »Religious Re-Orientation and Conflict Resolution.« Since September 2020, she is Professor of Ethics and Philosophy of Religion at the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University.


Gregory Whitfield was, on the invitation of the research centre »Justitia Amplificata. Rethinking Justice − Applied and Global«, a guest at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften from September 2019 – August 2020 with the research topic »On the Concept of Political Manipulation«. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Research Group on Constitutional Studies at the McGill University in Montreal.
