Contested Secessions. Rights, Self-determination, Democracy and Kashmir (Oxford University Press) the famous Indian political philosopher Neera Chandhoke turns to the problem of Kashmir struggeling for independence while simultaniously having a very diverse population. She regards the social contract between the people in the Kashmir region and their government as broken and points out, that the efforts of secession make the solution of how to deal with the minorities in this region theoretically almost unreachable.
In this brief video she provides a short insight into the arguments of her book and describes the theoretical ankle from which she adresses the issue of secession and self-determination.rnrn
Neera Chandhoke was a Professor of Political Theory at the University of New Delhi. In 2012 she retired and was, on the invitation of the Frankfurt research group »Justitia Amplificta«, a fellow at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften. Now she works at the NMML, the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in New Delhi.
