Justitia Amplificata Centre for Advanced Studies
2009-2020

About Justitia Amplificata | Team | Fellows | Events | Contact |

Justitia Amplificata (»Rethinking Justice - Applied and Global«) is a Centre for Advanced Studies of the German Research Foundation (DFG), established in 2009 at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and at the Free University Berlin. It is headed by Prof. Dr. Rainer Forst (Frankfurt) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Gosepath (FU Berlin). Since its inception, it has grown into an international center of research in political philosophy. Previous fellows include S. Benhabib, A. Buchanan, T. Christiano, K. Flikschuh, N. Fraser, W. Hinsch, F. Kamm, J. McMahan, F. Nullmeier, P. Pettit, T. Pogge, R. Schmalz-Bruns, H. Steiner, M. Williams, L. Ypi.

Forum for political theorists and philosophers

The Justitia Amplificata Centre for Advanced Studies deals with fundamental questions of justice that go beyond the traditional framework of the nation-state. Justitia Amplificata is a forum for political philosophers, political theorists, political scientists, and others to research normative theories of justice, including their interdisciplinary aspects. This research brings a variety of different theoretical and methodological perspectives in political theory and philosophy into fruitful interaction and conversation. In addition, the group examines whether, how, and to what extent theories of justice must interact with the results of empirical research.

Justitia Amplificata at the Forschungkolleg Humanwissenschaften

Every year Justitia Amplificata invites Fellows to stay at the idyllic Forschungkolleg Humanwissenschaften in Bad Homburg for periods from several weeks up to one year. Justitia Amplificata has several fellowship programs, including a Postdoctoral Fellowship program for early-career researchers, a Senior Fellowship program for established researchers and a Visiting Fellowship program, which allows for shorter stays. The Fellows are in constant exchange with the permanent members of the Centre, who have offices at the Forschungkolleg. This makes the Forschungkolleg a place of continuous discussion, in-depth research, and fruitful critical reflection.

Events of Justitia Amplificata at the Forschungkolleg Humanwissenschaften

Justitia Amplificata regularly organizes conferences and workshops at the Forschungkolleg Humanwissenschaften and at the two participating universities. You can find an overview of Justitia Amplificata events here. A highlight of the events is the annual conference, which is organized by the year’s Postdoctoral Fellows and takes place near the end of the summer term. It provides an opportunity for postdoctoral as well as internationally renowned researchers to engage in intensive discussion about a specific aspect of global justice. In recent years, the annual conference has focused on issues such as global pluralism, global economic justice, and relational justice.

For more information about Justitia Amplificata

See the main website of Justitia Amplificata Centre for Advanced Studies for information about the fellowship programs, the theoretical and methodological perspectives of the research group, and publications that have arisen in the context of the research group.
