Chair
Iwo Amelung is Professor of Sinology at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and since 2017 speaker of the resarch centre »Discourses of weakness and the futures of societies«. 2017 to 2020 he is also Goethe Fellow at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenshaften.

Bertram Schefold is Professor em. for Economics at Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main. 2017 bis 2020 he is also Senior Fellow at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenshaften.

About the conference
The Conference is being convened in the context of the project pursued in the Forschungskolleg Bad Homburg on »Chinese and European History of Economic Thought in Comparison«. It shall be a sequel to the Symposium held in December 2017 on »The Significance of Economic Theorising for Economic Growth and Prosperity. Chinese and Western Perspectives.«

The Conference shall deal with four themes which recurred at the Symposium but which could not be discussed in depth: (1) the perception of the monetary systems; (2) views on credit and interest; (3) stabilisation policies such as control of prices and quantities by means of monetary tools, demand management and stockpiling; (4) private and public social support under the influence of norms, beliefs and institutions of the state.
