»Childhood and Violence. Experiences with the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in Germany and outline perspectives for further research«

.

Abstract
What shapes experiences of violence in childhood? This question is the starting point of the lecture in terms of childhood theory. One characteristic of being a child is that they are dependent on the goodwill of adults. Children have to trust them. Survivors of child sexual abuse address the existential loss of trust they have suffered, not only in relation to perpetrators in the family, church, sport or school, but in their entire environment. Inquiries around the world, e.g. in Australia, Ireland or France, deal with the clarification and compensation of violence against children, especially in out-of-home care. This is loosely based on the concept of transitional justice. The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in Germany works with the term »Aufarbeitung« (working through the past; coming to terms). The lecture builds on the approach and findings and introduces further research perspectives.
