Preview: 2023 at the Forschungskolleg
We are looking forward to the first half of the year in 2023, for which we are planning some public events. You will find the exact dates on our website or via our social media channels on
Twitter and
Facebook. Here is a little preview:
Christoph Menke, Professor of Philosophy at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, will present his recently published book »Theorie der Befreiung«. Starting from the thesis that all previous attempts at liberation have failed and have always produced new forms of domination, Menke examines liberation as a process of contradiction against itself. More information on the book can be found
here (in German).
Senior Fellow Till van Rahden, Professor of German and European Studies at the Université de Montréal in Canada, will also present a new book at the Kolleg. In »Vielheit. Jüdische Geschichte und die Ambivalenzen des Universalismus«, van Rahden looks at key concepts in language related to diversity and, using Jewish history as an example, asks the question: how can the promise of universal equality be linked to a claim of diversity? More information about the book can be found
here (in German).
In the summer semester of 2023, we will continue the lecture series »Sinophone Classicism. Chinese Cultural Memories in a Global Space«. Fangdai Chen, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chinese at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, will hold a public lecture on May 25, 2023. Moreover, there will be further lectures in the series »Europe after the Russian invasion of Ukraine« as well as events of the newly established John McCloy Transatlantic Forum.
In 2023, we welcome several new Fellows to the Kolleg. Among them will be Daniel Statman, Professor of Philosophy at Haifa University in Israel, and Yitzhak Benbaji, Professor of Philosophy at Tel Aviv University in Israel. They will be working on a joint book project with the working title »Political Philosophy and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Territorial Rights, Global Justice and the Just War Theory«. We are also looking forward to Francis B Nyamnjoh, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, who will be our guest at the invitation of the Frobenius Institute.
