Forschungsthema

»Probable intertexts of the Quran and Its Early Exegesis based on Israiliyat Traditions«

Projektbeschreibung

The research of the Jewish and Christian traditions as inter- and circulated texts are integral parts of the Quran research and the studies for the reconstruction of the origins of Islam. Not only canonical Jewish and Christian sources are included, but also the apocryphal texts found their echo in the early Muslim sources. A special focus here is on Jewish-Christian and Syriac-Christian source research as a dynamic of reconstruction of the origins of Islam. Analyzing the sources of these two traditions provides an insight into the history of the reception of Christian influences and traditions. In addition, research into these sources is also an important part of the comparative approach, in which the monotheistic belief traditions are related.
