»Ethics of Counter-Terrorism«

States take a variety of different measures in their attempts to stop terrorism. These include not only the more visible preventative strategies associated with the so-called »war on terror« the use of military force and widespread surveillance of individuals' activities but also other policies aimed at reducing terrorist violence - such as integrating different communities in the hope of reducing home-grown terrorism and even negotiating with current and former terrorists in search of a peaceful solutions. My research investigates what moral limits should be placed on these sorts of practices. Is there something morally distinctive about terrorism which means that widely-endorsed moral rules and legal frameworks may permissibly be set aside in combating it?

Wissenschaftliches Profil

Issac Taylor hat 2015 an der University of Oxford mit einer Arbeit über »Distributive Justice and Global Public Goods« promoviert. Im Zentrum dieser Arbeit ging es um die Frage, wie mögliche Kosten und Vorteile einer Produktion von globalen öffentlichen Gütern zwischen Staaten aufgeteilt werden können.
Zwischen 2015 und 2016 war Taylor ein Postdoctoral Fellow am Zentrum für Advanced Studies »Justitia Amplificata« an der Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt. Dort untersuchte er in welcher Hinsicht und in welchem Rahmen die Verantwortung zur Durchführung von Terrorismusbekämpfung an Mitglieder der internationalen Gemeinschaft zugewiesen werden sollte. Daran anknüpfend untersucht Taylor in seinem derzeitigen Forschungsprojekt, welche moralischen Prinzipien als Richtlinie zur Terrorismusbekämpfung gelten könnten. Sein allgemeines Forschungsinteresse richtet sich dabei vor allem auf die Fragen der globalen Gerechtigkeit und der Ethik von bewaffneten Konflikten.
