An Beispielen von beiden Seiten des Atlantiks zeigt der Literatur- und Filmwissenschaftler Johannes von Moltke, wie eine neurechte »Metapolitik« im »vorpolitischen« Bereich versucht, den öffentlichen Diskurs und kulturelle Werte nach rechts zu verschieben. Dabei werden ehemals linke Positionen in ihr Gegenteil verkehrt und ein Verwirrspiel beginnt, das dem anderen politischen Lager diese Verkehrung vorwirft. Indem er diese Strategien analysiert, möchte von Moltke zu einem differenzierten und kritischen Umgang mit neurechten Positionen beitragen.

About the speaker
Johannes von Moltke is Professor of Germanan Studies, and of Film, Television, and Media, at the University of Michigan. He is the author of
The Curious Humanist: Siegfried Kracauer in America (2015), and
No Place Like Home: Locations of Heimat in German Cinema (2005). In 2019, the English translation of the last letters exchanged by his grandparents Helmuth James and Freya von Moltke was published (
Last Letters: The Prison Correspondence, 1944-45 with an afterword by Rachel Seiffert, transl. by Shelley Frisch, ed. by Helmuth Caspar, Dorothea and Johannes von Moltke). In spring 2024 Johannes von Moltke is a Fellow at the American Academy Berlin.
