Karma Ben Johanan moves to Berlin
The religious studies scholar Karma Ben Johanan has been appointed to the newly-founded Endowed Professorship for the Past and Present of Christian-Jewish Relations at Humboldt University

In 2017, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Reformation, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) announced the establishment of an Endowed Professorship for Christian-Jewish Relations – as it had become clear over the course of the Reformation decade that there are strongly anti-Jewish and anti-Semitic attitudes to be found in Reformation writings, in some cases to the present day. Karma Ben Johanan will assume the Professorship for the Past and Present of Christian-Jewish Relations, financed by the EKD, the EKBO, the Volkswagen Foundation and the Stifterverband and located at the Humboldt University Institute for Church and Judaism in Berlin. She starts teaching in the winter semester 2020/21.

Karma Ben Johanan studied history and religious studies at Tel Aviv University and received her PhD with a thesis on »Contemporary Conceptions of Judaism and Christianity in Catholic and Jewish Orthodox Theologies«. She was a Fellow at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in the summer of 2019 at the invitation of Professor Christian Wiese and the LOEWE research group »Religious Positioning. Modalities and Constellations in Jewish, Christian and Islamic Contexts«.
